Natural History

Almost all visitors of Banff National Park, located in the Canadian Rockies, have a wildlife encounter to tell. It can be through the comfort of your car window or on a trail, but wildlife is abundant in the park and an important part of the visitor’s experience.

During the summer months, the Canadian Rockies turn into a vivid and colourful wildflower garden. Being able to recognize the plants that one can encounter and to call them by name is an important step to understand, appreciate, and preserve Banff National Park. Bear Guardians

Banff's National Park's Bear Guardians reach park visitors 'where they are', with relevant, engaging messages and activities. The goals of the program are to patrol the secondary roadways in Banff National Park looking for potential or existing bear jams and deal with them as per warden protocols; to reduce habituation of bears; and to increase park visitors' knowledge of Banff's bears through informal roadside presentations and educational displays at day-use areas and at bear jams.
